The purpose of this policy is to outline the circumstances in which a student can resubmit an assessment either after missing the deadline of the third submission or after failing an assessment after the third allowed attempt.
Compassionate or compelling circumstances are generally those beyond the control of the student and which have an impact upon the student’s course progress or wellbeing. These could include, but are not limited to:
- serious illness or injury, where a medical certificate states that the student was unable to attend classes
- bereavement of close family members such as parents or grandparents (Where possible a death certificate should be provided)
- major political upheaval or natural disaster in the home country requiring emergency travel and this has impacted on the student’s studies
- a traumatic experience that has impacted on the student which could include involvement in, or witnessing of a serious accident or witnessing or being the victim of a serious crime. Such cases supported by police or psychologists’ reports
A student may resubmit an assessment, after having either missed the deadline for the third submission or after having recorded a failed assessment after the third allowed submission, in the two following cases:
1 Compelling or Compassionate Circumstances
If the student believes that he should be granted an extra submission due to compelling or compassionate circumstances, a complaints and appeals form should be submitted within 30 calendar days after the deadline of the submission. If the reason(s) detailed within are compelling and/or compassionate, the student may be granted up to 3 extra submission deadlines provided the student submits the assessment within a maximum duration of 10 business days.
A student who has an approved leave of absence is not automatically granted the right to submit assessments at another deadline unless otherwise specified within the Leave of Absence approval letter.
2 Paying a Reassessment Fee
By filling an Application for Assessment Resubmission form and paying a reassessment fee of 150$ during the student’s enrolment, the student is granted 3 attempts to resubmit the assessment. The application should be submitted to a CRICOS coordinator who will grant approval and assign three resubmission deadlines based on the following criteria:
First deadline: 10 calendar days from date of application.
Second deadline: 8 calendar days from date of first deadline (the trainer has 3 days to mark, and the three days are included within the 8 calendar days).
Third deadline: 6 calendar days from date of first deadline (the trainer has 3 days to mark, and the three days are included within the 6 calendar days).
If a student misses the third resubmission deadline or is still not competent after the third attempt, the resubmission approval expires and the student has to reapply for a resubmission and pay the reassessment fee again.
